      Short version: You can use this site without creating an account. If you sign in with Google, we store your name, email, and learning progress in our database to sync it across devices. We do not sell your data to anyone.
    

1. Who We Are

GetGermanReady is a free study platform for the German Leben in Deutschland (LiD) civics exam and A1–B1 German language exams. It is operated as a personal project. For privacy questions, contact us at senthilkumarofjce@gmail.com.

2. What We Collect and Why

Guest users (no account)

If you use the site without signing in, we store your progress (answered questions, flagged items, test results) only in your browser's localStorage. This data never leaves your device and is deleted when you clear your browser data.

Signed-in users (Google account)

When you sign in with Google, we receive and store:

Google account ID — to uniquely identify your account
Email address — to associate your data with you
Display name and profile photo URL — to personalise your profile

We also store the following learning data you create while using the site:

Question answers and whether they were correct
Mock test sessions (score, date, selected state)
Flagged questions
Profile preferences (target exam level, native language, exam date, federal state)
Study streak count

This data is stored in our database (Supabase, hosted on AWS in the EU) and is linked to your Google account ID.

3. Legal Basis for Processing

We process your data on the basis of contract performance (Article 6(1)(b) GDPR) — specifically, to provide the account-based features you request when you sign in — and legitimate interest (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR) for aggregate, anonymised analytics that help us improve the platform.

4. How We Use Your Data

To sync your progress across devices when you are signed in
To show you your test history, weak areas, and study streak
To display your name and avatar in the app
To send in-app feedback prompts after you have completed tests (never marketing emails)

We do not:

Sell or share your data with third parties for advertising or marketing
Use your data to train AI or machine-learning models
Send you promotional emails

5. Third-Party Services

Google Sign-In (Google LLC) — handles authentication. Governed by Google's Privacy Policy.
Supabase (Supabase Inc.) — stores user profiles and learning data. Data is hosted on AWS (EU region). See Supabase Privacy Policy.
Vercel (Vercel Inc.) — hosts and serves the website. Vercel may log standard server access logs (IP address, browser, request path) for up to 30 days. See Vercel Privacy Policy.
Google AdSense (Google LLC) — may display ads to guest and signed-in users. Google may use cookies to personalise ads based on your browsing. See Google Advertising Policies. You can opt out via Google Ad Settings.

6. Cookies and Local Storage

We use localStorage (not cookies) to store guest progress and session state in your browser. Google AdSense may set advertising cookies; these are controlled by Google's cookie policy, not ours. We do not set any first-party tracking cookies.

7. Data Retention

We keep your account data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account (via the Profile page), all your data is permanently removed from our database within 30 days. Guest data in localStorage is controlled entirely by your browser.

8. Your Rights

If you are in the EU/EEA or UK, you have the right to:

Access — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
Rectification — ask us to correct inaccurate data
Erasure — request deletion of your account and all associated data
Portability — receive your data in a machine-readable format
Object — object to processing based on legitimate interest

9. Children's Privacy

This site is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

10. Changes to This Policy

If we make material changes to this policy, we will update the effective date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this page periodically. Continued use of the site after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
