What's in the telc B1 Mock Test

The mock follows the official telc Deutsch B1 structure section by section, so practising here is practising the real exam.

Leseverstehen (Reading)

~90 min

Five reading parts plus Sprachbausteine (grammar & vocabulary in context) — matching texts, notices, and gap-fills in the telc B1 format.

Hörverstehen (Listening)

~30 min

Three listening parts: everyday conversations, radio-style announcements, and short interviews, each played and scored the telc way.

Schreiben (Writing)

30 min

Write one telc-style letter or email responding to a prompt, graded on content, structure, and correctness with per-point AI feedback.

Sprechen (Speaking)

~15 min

The three telc B1 speaking parts — getting-to-know-you, discussing a topic from a picture, and planning something together — with instant AI evaluation.

How telc B1 Scoring Works

telc Deutsch B1 is marked out of 300 points225 for the written exam (reading, language elements, listening, and writing) and 75 for the oral exam. You need about 60% to pass, and the written and oral parts are weighted so that one strong half cannot fully cover a weak other half. The mock applies the same weighting, so the score you see is the score you'd get.

Real telc B1 format

Same section order, same task types, same 300-point scoring logic as the official telc Deutsch B1 Zertifikat — so nothing on exam day is a surprise.

Target your weak spots

Repeat the parts that cost you marks — Sprachbausteine, the telc letter, or the paired Sprechen — until your score climbs past the pass mark.

telc B1 Mock Test — Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about the telc Deutsch B1 exam, its scoring, and how this mock prepares you.

Is this a real telc B1 mock test?

Yes. This mock mirrors the official telc Deutsch B1 exam: the same sections (Leseverstehen with Sprachbausteine, Hörverstehen, Schreiben, and Sprechen), the same task types, and the same 300-point scoring. Your first full mock is free and you can start without creating an account.

How is the telc B1 exam scored?

telc Deutsch B1 is marked out of 300 points — 225 for the written exam (reading, language elements, listening, writing) and 75 for the oral exam. You need roughly 60% to pass. Our mock applies the same weighting so your practice score reflects a real result.

What is the pass mark for telc B1?

You need about 60% overall — the written and oral parts are assessed so that a strong performance in one cannot fully rescue a weak performance in the other. Aim comfortably above 60% in practice to leave a margin for exam-day nerves.

Is the telc B1 mock test free?

Your first full telc B1 mock exam is free, along with individual practice sections, and it includes the full AI feedback. After the free taster, unlimited B1 mocks, sections, and speaking practice unlock for a one-time €4.99 — there is no subscription.

Do I need to sign up to take the mock?

You can start practising without signing up. A free account (Google sign-in) lets you save progress across devices and track your scores over time, but it is not required to begin.

telc B1 vs Goethe B1 — is the mock useful for both?

The reading, listening, writing, and speaking skills tested at B1 are the same across boards, so this mock is strong preparation for Goethe-Zertifikat B1 and the DTZ too. The main difference is that Goethe B1 is modular (four exams you can sit separately). See our full B1 guide for the board-by-board comparison.

How long is the telc B1 exam?

The written exam runs about 2.5 hours (reading and language elements ~90 minutes, a listening section ~30 minutes, and writing 30 minutes), followed by a roughly 15-minute paired oral exam, usually on the same day or shortly after.

Why do I need telc B1 in Germany?

B1 is the language level required for German citizenship (§ 10 StAG) and for the standard permanent-residence permit (Niederlassungserlaubnis, § 9 AufenthG). A telc Deutsch B1 certificate is accepted by every German authority as proof of that level.

B1 Is the Gateway to Citizenship

Passing telc B1 covers the language requirement. For citizenship you also need the Leben in Deutschland civics test — free to practise here.
